Sold for: £100
A collection of two items of yellow gold jewellery, comprising a double-sided spinner fob and a horseshoe stick pin. The spinner fob features a circular swivelling mount set with a dark green bloodstone to one side and a dark reddish-brown jasper or carnelian to the reverse. The mount is decorated with a scrolling, engraved frame and bears hallmarks on the side of the setting. The marks, applied by stamping, include the gold purity marks 9 and .375, an anchor symbol for the Birmingham assay office, and the lowercase letter e in a shield. The horseshoe stick pin is set with alternating small, square-cut red and green gemstones, possibly garnets and glass or tourmalines, within box settings. The pin stem is constructed with a threaded section and shows signs of solder reinforcement at the junction with the horseshoe. No manufacturer name or maker’s marks are legible on either piece.
Condition report:
Both items show surface scratches and wear consistent with age. The horseshoe stick pin shows visible tarnish and lead-based solder repair or reinforcement at the junction between the pin stem and the horseshoe head (photo 6). The gemstones in the horseshoe appear secure but show minor surface abrasions. The hallmarks on the spinner fob are clearly legible (photo 4).
