A collection of vintage soda siphons comprising seven glass bottles with varied etched designs and dispensing heads. The group features molded glass bodies, several with panelled or fluted sides, and fitted plastic and metal siphoning mechanisms. The etched designs include a logo for the Co-operative Wholesale Society Ltd with a CWS shield; a circular mark for Hunt’s Soda Water with a fox motif and a red plastic Adcocks collar; a bottle marked Hall & Sons Ltd Norwood with a degraded paper label at the shoulder; an example for Starkey Knight & Ford Ltd Bridgwater featuring a horse trade mark and the word Unapproachable; a siphon for Tooth & Co. Limited Sydney Australia featuring the Blue Bow brand; a Cornish example for St Austell Brewery Co Ltd Pure Table Waters; and a Torquay example for Vinnicombe & Son Wine & Spirit Merchants Geneva House. The dispensing heads are primarily white plastic with coloured caps in red, blue, and green, featuring metal levers and spouts. Internal glass or plastic dip tubes are visible within the transparent glass bodies. This lot comprises the siphons only; the wooden shelving shown in the images is not included.
Condition report:
The glass bodies appear generally sound, although surface scratching and internal clouding or residue are visible across the collection, particularly noted in the Starkey Knight & Ford and Vinnicombe examples (photo 2). The plastic dispensing heads exhibit yellowing and discolouration consistent with age. Metal components, including the levers and spout surrounds, show varying degrees of oxidation, pitting, and surface wear (photo 1). The paper labels on the Hall & Sons and St Austell bottles are degraded, showing losses and adhesive residue (photo 3). Functional integrity of the internal valves and seals is unverified.
