Start price: £12

Estimated price: £12 - £22

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £12

A collection of Southeast Asian style carved hardwood figures and decorative objects. The group features a pair of portrait busts, one male and one female, each intricately carved from a dense, dark-stained hardwood, possibly ebony. The male figure is depicted wearing a traditional headcloth or udeng, while the female figure is shown with a gelung headwrap. These busts are executed in a stylised manner characteristic of mid-20th century Balinese or Javanese craftsmanship. The collection further includes a tall, rectangular wooden stand featuring pierced openwork with foliate scrolling, a small footed bowl with incised geometric patterns possibly carved from a coconut shell, and three vertical display stands. One display stand is a traditional kris holder with a curved, zoomorphic base, while two others are simple blackened uprights. A rectangular wooden box with a light orange finish, metal handle, and dark linear inlay is also included, along with a piece of natural gnarled rootwood sculpture. A small white label is present on the lower shelf, though the text remains illegible. This lot comprises the decorative objects only.

Condition report:

The wooden busts appear to be in good condition with a deep, lustrous patina and no visible cracks or major chips (photo 1). The wooden box shows surface wear, small scuffs, and slight oxidation to the metal hardware consistent with age (photo 3). The kris stand displays some wear to the finish on its scrolling base (photo 3). Minor surface dust is visible in the recessed areas of the carvings (photo 2). The rootwood sculpture and other stands appear stable with no obvious damage beyond natural irregularities.
