Sold for: £6
A collection of mid-century British household electronics and entertainment items. The lot is centered around a Bush table radio housed in a cream-coloured urea-formaldehyde or Bakelite cabinet. The front of the radio features raised gold-tone lettering spelling BUSH and a large circular tuning dial with a dark burgundy face and a central metal knob. The dial is printed with various European station names including London, Scottish, Welsh, Northern, West, Dublin, Motala, and Lux’bg, with frequency markings for Long and Medium wave bands.
The collection includes a textured brown fiberboard suitcase with a red patterned fabric lining, containing two brown Bakelite View-Master stereoscopes. Accompanying these are an original orange and red cardboard box for a Sawyer’s View-Master Transformer and a white illustrated box containing a light attachment with a white braided electrical cord. Also included is a stack of approximately eight 10-inch 78rpm shellac records. One visible record bears a red and gold label featuring the text THE SHOWERS and Made in England. The records are contained within a worn tan paper sleeve printed with the name Moon’s and the location Pianos, Plymouth. This lot comprises the radio, suitcase, and listed accessories only.
Condition report:
The Bush radio cabinet shows heavy surface grime and dust accumulation across the front and top surfaces (photo 1). The tuning dial appears intact, though the plastic cover shows age-related yellowing. The suitcase shows significant wear to the exterior and interior lining, with heavy oxidation and surface rust present on the metal latches and handle hardware (photo 2). The braided electrical cord on the light attachment is frayed and damaged (photo 2). The 78rpm records exhibit surface scuffs and dust, and the paper sleeve is heavily creased with significant tearing at the edges (photo 3). All electronic items are sold as non-functional decorative pieces; working order is unknown and professional rewiring is required for any electrical components.
