Sold for: £7
A collection of elephant figurines and a pair of bookends, primarily carved from various hardwoods and stone. The group includes several larger individual carvings, numerous miniatures, and a pair of L-shaped wooden bookends featuring relief-carved elephants. The wooden pieces exhibit a variety of finishes, ranging from light teak-like tones to dark, polished ebony-style finishes, with some showing natural grain patterns and others a uniform reddish-brown stain. A prominent wooden elephant is decorated with intricate floral and scrollwork carvings across its back and head, resembling a ceremonial caparison. Several figures feature inset tusks made from a light-coloured material.
Condition report:
The collection appears to be in good vintage condition overall. Several figures are missing one or both inset tusks, notably the large dark wooden elephant in the centre and the light-coloured wooden elephant to the right (photo 1). Minor surface scuffs, scratches, and small indentations consistent with age and handling are visible on the wooden surfaces (photo 1 and photo 2). There is visible dust accumulation in the recessed areas of the more intricately carved pieces (photo 2).
