A collection of fireplace accessories featuring traditional Dutch and English maritime and tavern motifs. The lot comprises a large log box or coal bunker constructed from a wooden frame clad in embossed brass sheet. The front panel is decorated with a detailed tavern scene depicting figures in 17th-century style dress, with the lid and side panels featuring similar scenes. The interior is lined with wood and includes a retaining chain for the lid. Also included is a smaller magazine rack or kindling box with a slanted front and a brass handle, embossed with a three-masted sailing galleon at sea. A single-panel spark guard is present, featuring a polished brass tubular frame with an arched top and a fine black wire mesh screen. The collection further includes a pair of functional bellows with an embossed brass front plate depicting a tavern scene, black leather or vinyl diaphragm, and brass-finished handles and nozzle. A circular wall charger completes the group, featuring a highly embossed scene of a three-masted sailing galleon on choppy waters, finished with a rope-twist border. No manufacturer’s marks or labels are visible on the pieces.

Condition report:

The items show signs of age and use consistent with fireplace accessories. There is varied tarnish and oxidation across all brass surfaces, particularly visible in the recessed areas of the embossing and some green verdigris (photo 1). The larger log box shows wear to the internal wooden lining and a dark circular mark is visible on the interior of the lid (photo 5). The smaller box has significant surface wear and darkening to the interior (photo 6). The leather or vinyl components of the bellows show minor surface wear (photo 4). The wire mesh on the fireplace screen is intact but shows slight discoloration from heat (photo 3).
