Sold for: £16
A Chinese style table lamp constructed from a three-tiered hexagonal porcelain vase. The vase features a pale celadon-toned glaze and is decorated with polychrome famille rose enamels. The decorative scheme consists of alternating panels depicting figures in garden and interior settings, interspersed with panels of birds, butterflies, and floral motifs including lotus and peony. The tiered sections are separated by green borders featuring a cracked-ice and prunus pattern, while the rim and foot are finished with pink and yellow ruyi-head and scroll borders. The porcelain body has been professionally converted for electrical use with a metal fitting and white wire frame. The lot includes a large cream-coloured fabric lampshade with a scalloped rim and floral damask pattern. The underside of the porcelain (photo 3) shows a recessed, glazed hexagonal centre surrounded by an unglazed foot rim; no reign marks or maker’s marks are visible. The lot comprises the lamp and shade only.
Condition report:
The porcelain body is in good overall condition with minor surface pitting and wear consistent with production and age. There are no visible cracks or large chips to the enamelled surfaces. The unglazed foot rim shows significant atmospheric soiling, staining, and minor fritting (photo 3). The fabric shade shows minor creasing but is generally clean. The electrical wiring is modern but must be professionally tested by a qualified electrician before use.
