Lot 445: A Mid Century Elm and Beech Three Tier Trolley

This auction ended on September 30, 2026.

Start price: £20

Estimated price: £20 - £40

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £220

A mid-century three-tier trolley constructed from solid wood with decorative graining consistent with elm. The unit features three fixed-height shelves with rounded surfboard style ends, supported by four tapered vertical uprights. The two outer pairs of supports extend above the top shelf to form integrated handles. A central vertical support is positioned between the lower and middle tiers for additional stability. The piece is mounted on four spherical metal ball casters. While the design and construction are characteristic of British furniture of the 1950s and 1960s, there are no visible maker’s marks, labels, or stamps to the underside or body of the piece. This lot comprises the trolley only.

Condition report:

The wooden surfaces show signs of wear consistent with age and use. The top shelf displays multiple water rings, circular marks, and areas of finish loss (photo 1). Surface scratching and scuffing are visible throughout, particularly concentrated along the shelf edges and the lower tier (photo 2). The four spherical metal casters show surface oxidation and accumulation of dust (photo 4).
