A trio of contemporary stylised elephant sculptures crafted from a variety of materials and textures. The first piece is a mixed-media relief carving of a mother and calf elephant in ornate caparison, finished in a cream-toned material possibly intended to simulate bone or ivory. This carving is set within a dark-stained rustic wooden frame and mounted on a rectangular black plinth, embellished with orange cabochons. The second sculpture is an elongated sheet metal figure with a mottled brown and yellow polychrome finish, featuring a high-reaching trunk and standing on thin metal legs attached to a heavy rectangular base. The third work is a contemporary bust of an elephant in a composite or metal material, decorated with a teal and red patterned ear, a red jewelled eye, and an inset panel of crushed or mosaic glass. The trunk is represented by a coiled spring, and the piece is mounted on a square base with a verdigris-patinated finish. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on any of the pieces.
Condition report:
The sculptures generally appear in good condition with no visible chips or cracks to the cream-toned carving or the mosaic glass panel (photo 2, 4). Minor surface wear and dust are present, consistent with display. The metal legs of the elongated elephant show slight signs of oxidation (photo 3). The verdigris finish on the base of the elephant bust and the mottled finish on the metal sculptures are decorative features of the objects rather than defects.
