Lot 56: A Table Lamp with Cast Metal Zoomorphic Base and Damask Pattern Fabric Shade

This auction ended on September 30, 2026.

Start price: £10

Estimated price: £10 - £20

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £14

A table lamp featuring a cast metal tripod base and stem, constructed with an open-work design. The base and stem appear to be made of a dark patinated copper-alloy or bronze, showing significant green verdigris oxidation within the recessed details. The tripod feet are formed in a stylised foliate or animalier fashion, while the stem comprises three vertical supports topped with small animal-head finials, possibly canine or feline in form. The lamp is fitted with a modern gold-coloured plastic flex and a metal bulb socket housing. Embossed characters around the rim of the socket read VITRITOUM, followed by a series of digits which are not clearly legible. The lot includes a cream-coloured fabric shade of waisted and scalloped form, decorated with a floral damask style pattern and finished with a braided trim.

Condition report:

The cast metal base shows extensive green verdigris oxidation across the tripod feet and throughout the stem recesses (photos 2 and 3). Surface wear and minor scuffing are visible to the dark patina. The fabric shade remains intact, though it exhibits minor surface dust and light discoloration consistent with age (photo 1). The electrical flex is a modern replacement; however, the lamp has not been tested and should be professionally safety checked before use.
