A pair of framed colour prints on paper featuring contrasting artistic styles. The first is a neo-Romantic landscape print depicting the ruins of St Mary le Port, Bristol, following wartime damage. It is rendered in a palette of deep brown, orange, and blue with expressive, textured brushwork. The reverse of the silver-toned metal frame bears a printed white rectangular label reading John Piper . St Mary le Port, Bristol . Tate Gallery. The second print is a Romanesque style religious work depicting Christ in Majesty within a mandorla, surrounded by figures of the Four Evangelists. The central figure is shown holding an open book with the Latin inscription EGO LUX MUNDI. The lower left corner of the image bears the vertically oriented text JOHANNES AVILA. This piece is housed in a black fluted wooden frame with four decorative gilt circular bosses at the corners. The reverse of the wooden frame features a white adhesive label with printed text ARGADA, BATCH REF 020520, REF 595 167 900, and SIZE 16×20 406×508.
Condition report:
Both prints appear to be in good overall condition. The John Piper print exhibits some minor rippling to the paper support visible under the glass (photo 6). The frames show light superficial wear consistent with handling, specifically small scuffs to the wooden frame corners (photo 2). The reverse of the wooden frame shows some light scratching to the reddish finish (photo 4).
