Sold for: £44
A collection of maritime and industrial hardware comprising a heavy-duty snatch block and various bronze, brass, and steel components. The single-sheave snatch block is constructed with dark-stained wooden cheeks and features a hinged steel side plate for rope insertion, terminating in a large swivel eye. The metal plate bears an embossed circular mark containing the characters A and M separated by a vertical line; a model or serial number is present below the central bolt but is not clearly legible due to surface pitting.
The lot includes several bronze-style maritime fittings displaying a heavy green verdigris patina, notably a boat hook head with curved tines and a hollow socket, and two large deck cleats with twin mounting holes. Also present is a group of smaller brass and bronze-style furniture and utility pieces, including a T-handle valve, various shackles, rings, and a door or hatch handle with an integrated circular mounting rose and original bolts. The items are housed in an rectangular green-painted metal utility box.
Condition report:
The items are in salvaged, as-found condition. The snatch block shows significant wear to the wooden cheeks, including surface scratches and drying, while the metal components exhibit surface rust and pitting (photo 1). The bronze-style fittings, including the cleats and boat hook, show heavy oxidation and verdigris consistent with maritime use (photo 2). Several threaded mounting bolts on the handle and plates show corrosion and thread wear. The green metal utility box shows significant paint loss and surface rust throughout (photo 1).
