An Orientalist style oil painting executed in polychrome pigments on a chamfered wooden panel. The composition depicts an interior scene with two female figures. A central figure in draped white costume with a multi-coloured sash reclines upon a red bolster, positioned before a leopard-skin hanging. To the right, a second figure in a yellow robe sits upon a patterned rug, holding a woven fan and resting a hand on a large frame drum. The setting includes Islamic architectural motifs such as a geometric star-patterned wall niche and green tiled wainscoting, alongside a large potted palm and a hookah in the foreground. The reverse of the panel shows a dark wash and beveled edges. The work is housed in a heavily ornate, carved rococo style composite frame with a gilded finish over a red bole primer. The left side of the frame’s reverse bears a printed alphanumeric sequence reading X 1128-G3 P 8 K 1 0.

The ornate composite frame has significant condition issues including multiple visible cracks in the moulding (photo 4), surface abrasions, and a prominent loss/hole in the casting at the bottom centre scrollwork (photo 1). The reverse shows general wear to the timber and oxidation to the metal hanging rings.
