A collection of modern books comprising a diverse assortment of hardcover and softcover volumes. The collection includes a significant quantity of regional interest titles focusing on the West Country, with titles such as Dartmoor: A New Study, Dartmoor 365 by John Hayward, and various local guides including a Craft Galleries Guide to Cornish Ports and Harbours. Contemporary literature and biographies are well-represented with works by authors including Bill Bryson, Michael Morpurgo, Nigel Slater, Shirley Ballas, and Mary Berry. The group also contains a selection of children’s classics, notably several small-format volumes from The Tale of Peter Rabbit series by Beatrix Potter, published by Frederick Warne & Co. Included are three small leather-bound religious volumes: two copies of the Holy Bible and one Book of Common Prayer. The bindings vary from standard modern dust-jacketed hardcovers to pictorial boards and trade paperbacks. A white bookmark featuring stylised blue figures is present, bearing the text Bill Bryson The Body.
Condition report:
The collection is in generally good condition with visible signs of shelf wear consistent with handling. Several paperback volumes show light foxing and toning to the page edges (photo 3). Minor bumping is visible to the corners of some hardcover boards and the extremities of the dust jackets (photo 1). Some spine fading is evident on the older regional interest paperbacks (photo 4). The small-format Beatrix Potter volumes and the leather-bound religious texts appear well-preserved with only minor surface rubbing (photo 2).
