A collection of soft toys and a vintage doll featuring various animal figures and traditional teddy bears. The group includes a large lion plush with a shaggy brown mane and white chin fur, bearing a blue and white paper tag printed with Out of Africa over a map of the continent. A seated foal or donkey plush is finished in light brown fabric with white facial markings, blue eyes, and a yellow ribbon. An owl figure, styled as a scholar, is dressed in a black mortarboard hat and a grey felt waistcoat with white buttons, featuring large yellow and black plastic eyes and a red felt beak. The collection also contains a dark corduroy style dog plush.
Traditional bears in the lot include a large golden-brown mohair style bear with a black stitched nose and a smaller light tan bear with a red ribbon and a fabric tag reading CE. A dark brown plush bear is dressed in a red and black tartan hat and scarf, retaining a bear-head shaped cardboard ear tag with the name Detamailes in cursive script. A smaller seated lion with amber plastic eyes is also included. The doll features a hand-painted head with closed eyes and is dressed in hand-knitted garments comprising a light green dress, a matching bonnet, and a white crochet style cardigan. Limbs appear to be made of composition or plastic.
Condition report:
The items are in good vintage condition. The golden-brown mohair style bear shows light matting to the fur (photo 2). The paper tag on the Out of Africa lion is creased (photo 1). The knitted clothing on the doll shows typical age-related wear but no unravelling or significant damage (photo 3). The plush fabrics and felt components are generally well-preserved across the group.
