This lot comprises a pair of Japanese style wooden training swords, commonly known as bokken. The set consists of two solid wood pieces, one of katana length and one of shoto length, both crafted from a dense, reddish-brown hardwood. The swords feature a traditional curved profile mimicking the sori of a steel blade. The handles are integrated into the single piece of wood, with a distinct shoulder where a guard would normally be positioned. The tips are finished in a blunt kakisaki style. The two items are currently tied together with natural fiber twine. No maker’s marks, signatures, or inscriptions are visible on the wood surfaces. A white rectangular adhesive label is present on the shorter sword, however, this appears to be a modern inventory or stock marking and is not part of the manufacturer’s original finish.
Condition report:
Both items show significant signs of use, including numerous small nicks, indentations, and impact marks along the edges and spines of the wooden blades (photo 1). The wood finish is worn, with areas showing darkening from handling on the grip sections and light scratching throughout (photo 3). A natural grain separation or deep surface scratch is visible near the hilt of the longer sword (photo 2). No major structural cracks or splits are visible in the wood.
