Sold for: £30
A cavalry style sabre featuring a curved, single-edged steel blade and a polished steel hilt. The blade is constructed with a wide fuller extending approximately two-thirds of its length, terminating in a hatchet point. The hilt comprises a P-shaped stirrup guard in polished steel with a rounded pommel cap and a contoured grip wrapped in ribbed black leather. The accompanying scabbard is constructed from black leather with a longitudinal stitched seam on the reverse, fitted with a steel locket, a central suspension band with a ring, and a steel chape. No maker’s marks, stamps, or inscriptions are visible on the blade, hilt, or scabbard components.
Total length in scabbard: 95 cm
Blade length: 76 cm.
Condition report:
The blade remains in bright condition with scattered carbon spotting and light surface scuffing visible across both sides (photos 5 and 6). The steel hilt shows light surface oxidation and minor pitting, particularly to the interior of the guard (photo 2). The leather grip wrap is intact with light wear to the high points of the ribbing. The leather-covered scabbard body shows a strong luster with minor surface scuffs and remains structurally sound. The steel scabbard fittings exhibit surface wear and light oxidation consistent with age (photo 1).
