A collection of original works on paper comprising watercolors and pencil drawings, primarily featuring British coastal and rural subjects. The lot includes a pair of coastal scenes executed in watercolor, each bearing the signature C. A. DAVEY-SMITH in the lower right, presented in matching light wood frames with gold fillets. A further watercolor study of Spring Flowers in an oval mount is signed and dated Peggy Allen 1995. A pencil and watercolor wash drawing titled The Rock – Yelverton is signed and dated John Allen 1991. The collection is completed by a larger landscape watercolor depicting a stone arch bridge over a stream in a wooded setting, signed Mona followed by further characters which are not clearly legible. The works are housed in a variety of wooden frames, including natural and stained finishes.
Condition report:
The collection is in generally good condition. Light toning is visible to the paper of the Yelverton drawing (photo 3). There are minor surface scuffs and dust present on several of the wooden frames (photos 4 and 5). The colors appear well-preserved, though some minor fading may be present consistent with age and light exposure. The glazing shows visible reflections in multiple images but the glass appears intact across all pieces.
