This lot comprises two contemporary decorative items produced in a Pan-Indigenous North American style. The first item is a frame drum featuring a natural rawhide drumhead with characteristic mottled brown and tan pigmentation, secured to a dark-finished bentwood hoop with a series of metal upholstery-style tacks. The reverse is fitted with a fixed, dark-stained wooden cross-brace handle. The second item is a decorative wall hanging, or mandella, featuring a central circular panel printed with a graphic of four wolves in a winter forest setting. The outer hoop is wrapped in light-coloured suede or leather, and the central panel is suspended by a web of thin leather cord. The piece is further embellished with tufts of white faux fur and hanging leather thongs adorned with white plastic beads and natural feathers. The mandella bears a small white adhesive label with handwritten alphanumeric characters.
Condition report:
The frame drum appears to be in good condition with the rawhide skin remaining taut and intact (photo 1). There is minor surface scuffing visible on the dark finish of the frame and the internal cross-brace (photo 3). The decorative mandella shows light dust accumulation on the leather wrapping and cords (photo 1). The feathers are present and mostly intact, though they show minor ruffling and wear consistent with display (photo 1).
