Sold for: £46
A collection of decorative objects, natural specimens, and vintage collectibles. The lot includes a group of geological specimens such as slate fragments, a large amethyst or quartz druzy cluster, a banded agate or chert nodule, and a fossiliferous stone bowl resting on a marble plinth. Noted items include a green glass Codd-neck bottle with an internal marble, a small white stone with incised black characters, and a letter opener with a handle possibly made of antler. The assortment further comprises metalwares and curiosities: a cast metal tortoise with a hinged shell, a bird-form metal candle snuffer or figurine, a silver-plate tea strainer and sifter spoon, bird-claw style sugar tongs, a large iron skeleton key, and a handheld magnifying glass with a metal frame. A miniature Newgate England mantle clock and a small polished copper tripod censer are also present. The underside of the censer features an incised square seal with four characters, but these are too heavily worn to be transcribed. One stone bears a white adhesive label reading ‘R1332 C’.
Condition report:
The collection shows varying degrees of age-related wear across the different materials. The metal pieces exhibit surface tarnishing and oxidation throughout (photo 1 and 2). The geological specimens show natural surface abrasions and some dust accumulation (photo 1 and 4). The green glass bottle appears intact with no visible chips or cracks (photo 1). The magnifying glass shows minor surface scratches to the lens (photo 2). All items exhibit general signs of handling consistent with their type and age.
