A collection of vintage advertising matchbooks and matchboxes, primarily focused on the international hospitality and travel industries. The assortment includes a diverse range of ephemera from the mid-to-late 20th century, featuring branding from establishments such as The Savoy, Evergreen Plaza Hotel, Regal Kowloon Hotel, The Prince’s Room, and Consort Hotels. The collection is housed in two large upright white tin canisters decorated with illustrations of historical military figures and animals, along with two gold-toned triangular tins and a small wicker basket. Also included are two wooden figural matchbox holders painted to resemble British Queen’s Guard soldiers and a red and white circular tin featuring a crown flanked by the initials E and R. A small cardboard box printed with a half-timbered house design is also present. Several items bear adhesive labels with handwritten codes R1332C and R1332.
Condition report:
The collection is in varied vintage condition. The paper matchbooks and matchboxes show surface wear, rubbing to the edges, and slight creasing to the covers (as shown in the main image). Many of the strike strips exhibit signs of use with dark scuffing. The painted wooden guard figures show minor paint loss and shelf wear. The large tin canisters have minor surface scratches and some oxidation around the rims. The wicker basket remains structurally intact.
