Sold for: £170
A collection of jewellery consisting primarily of silver and silver-coloured metal pieces, featuring modernist and mid-century styles. The assortment includes necklaces, bangles, rings, and brooches. Notable items include a hinged bangle with a series of impressed marks to the interior: a capital letter F in a square cartouche, a lion passant, a leopard’s head, and the date letter u in a clipped shield. A cross pendant is struck with the word STERLING in capital letters on the reverse. The group also features a modernist brooch of geometric layered disc form, a leaf-motif brooch, and several simple band rings. Construction techniques throughout the lot include hammered surfaces, pierced floral designs, and wire-work. Some pieces are set with stones that appear to be garnets or other dark gemstones. The lot includes two empty navy blue presentation boxes with white satin linings.
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of age and wear consistent with use. Visible tarnish and surface oxidation are present across most pieces, notably on the modernist disc brooch and the wire-work necklace (photo 1). Surface scratches and minor abrasions are visible on the polished surfaces of the bangles and rings (photo 4). The wire components on the necklaces show some irregular bending (photo 2). The cross pendant shows heavy tarnish and some rubbing to the stamped mark (photo 7). The presentation boxes show light external scuffing but the hinges remain functional (photo 3).
