A George II period English oak chest of drawers featuring a traditional two-over-three configuration. The piece is constructed from solid oak throughout, with the top formed of four wide planks and the sides comprising broad vertical planks joined to the top with visible through-mortise and tenon joints. The drawer fronts are finished with cockbeaded edges and carry brass swan-neck drop handles on shaped backplates with matching brass escutcheons. The hardware shows a deep, natural patina. The chest is supported by bracket feet and features a backboard constructed of horizontal hand-sawn boards. The drawers are built with hand-cut dovetail joints, with oak drawer bottoms where the grain runs front-to-back. The secondary linings are composed of oak and pine, and the drawer sides show evidence of running wear to the bottom edges. No maker marks, labels, or signatures are visible on the piece.

Condition report:

The top surface exhibits significant staining, dark ring marks, scratches, and a large dark spill mark to the left side (photos 1 and 4). The front left corner of the top molding shows a chip and significant wear (photo 6). There are visible gaps between the timber planks on the top and right side due to natural shrinkage (photos 3 and 4). General surface wear, scuffs, and bruising are present throughout the body consistent with age (photo 1). The cockbeading on the drawer edges shows several small chips and losses (photo 8). The drawer runners exhibit heavy internal wear (photo 9). The bracket feet show scuffing and minor wood loss at the base (photo 1). The finish has a built-up layer of grime and wax patina (photo 5).
