Lot 321: A Pair of Turned Beech or Birch Wood Round Stools

This auction ended on October 14, 2026.

Start price: £5

Estimated price: £5 - £10

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £5

A pair of two matching round-seated wooden stools. The stools are constructed from a light-coloured wood, possibly beech or birch, with a clear varnish finish. Each stool features a circular seat with a rounded edge profile, supported by four splayed legs with ring-turned detailing and tapered feet. The legs are connected by four turned stretchers in a socket-and-tenon assembly. On the underside of the seats, there are faint red markings applied to the wood, possibly reading J, F, W, although these characters are partially obscured and are not legible as a specific maker’s name. A white adhesive label is present on the side of one seat bearing the number 321.

Condition report:

The stools appear to be in sound structural condition. The clear finish shows general surface wear throughout, including scattered scratches and minor scuffing to the legs and stretchers (photo 2). There are visible scuffs and indentations to the feet consistent with domestic use (photo 3). The underside of the seats shows some surface discolouration and the aforementioned red lettering is faded and partially illegible (photo 3).
