A collection of South Asian and Middle Eastern style decorative objects comprising metalwork and carved wooden items. The group features a tall, slender brass style lamp base of multi-tiered form, featuring a central section of intricate openwork foliage decoration. The base is fitted for electricity and retains a length of severed white insulated cord. Included is a rustic, hexagonal iron style lantern of Moorish form, constructed with pierced geometric panels and inset textured glass panes in clear and yellow tones. The interior of the lantern contains remnants of a large, partially melted pillar candle. The wooden elements include a hand-carved elephant stool or stand, likely of Indian origin, featuring a flat circular top supported by a stylised elephant figure. Also present is a pair of decorative wooden elephant bookends, hand-painted in red and yellow with floral caparison motifs. No maker’s marks, signatures, or retailer labels are visible on any of the pieces.
Condition report:
The brass style lamp base shows a natural aged patina and minor surface marks throughout, with the electrical cord having been severed at the base (photo 2). The iron style lantern exhibits significant oxidation and surface rust across the metal frame (photo 6) and contains thick wax residue and webbing to the interior (photo 7). The wooden elephant stool displays significant use-wear, surface scuffs, and a dark matte finish with some areas of light-coloured staining to the underside of the feet (photo 5). The painted elephant bookends show wear to the edges and minor paint loss to the red and yellow decorative surfaces (photo 9).
