Lot 333: A Large Japanese style Tube-Lined Ceramic Floor Vase

This auction ended on October 14, 2026.

Start price: £5

Estimated price: £5 - £10

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £7

A large Japanese style ceramic floor vase, appearing to be stoneware or heavy earthenware, featuring a baluster form with a flared, scalloped rim and a pedestal-style foot. The vase is decorated in a tube-lined or slip-trailed technique, where the design outlines are raised above the surface. The decoration features a dense botanical motif including cherry blossoms on branches, lilies, and large leaves. The colour palette consists of a deep cobalt blue ground with motifs in shades of cream, buff, ochre, and sage green. The rim and foot are finished with a contrasting turquoise blue glaze, and the interior of the neck is finished in a light cream glaze. No factory marks or signatures are visible on the body of the vase. The lot comprises the vase only; the striped textile and wooden surface shown in the images are not included.

Condition report:

The vase shows general surface wear consistent with age. There is a visible scratch or surface scuff on the cobalt blue glaze near the centre of the body (photo 2). The rim and foot show some minor irregularities in the glaze application, which appear to be from manufacture. No significant chips, cracks, or repairs are visible in the provided angles.
