This lot comprises a decorative display sword modeled as Excalibur, mounted on a dark-stained, contoured wooden wall plaque. The straight, double-edged blade features a polished chrome or stainless steel finish and is decorated at the ricasso with an etched gold-toned panel featuring a continuous Celtic knotwork pattern. The ornate crossguard is finished in a gold tone and features scrolled ends set with red cabochon stones and a central shield-shaped langet depicting a raised dragon or gryphon motif. The hilt is completed with a textured grip featuring a fine diamond and scroll pattern, and a circular gold-toned pommel featuring a raised relief of a lion’s head set with two red cabochon eyes. The sword is displayed on a shaped wooden plaque with the tip of the blade resting in a matching wooden pocket. A small brass-toned rectangular plate is pinned to the lower right of the plaque and reads Excalibur.
Condition report:
The blade appears bright but shows surface smudging and light atmospheric tarnish, particularly visible near the tip (photo 1). The gold-toned finish on the hilt exhibits light surface wear, although all cabochon stones appear intact (photo 2). The wooden plaque has several visible scuffs and scratches, including a pale impact mark on the blade-pocket component (photo 3). The sword remains securely seated in its mounting points.
