A Victorian style side table or washstand constructed from mahogany with a dark stained finish. The table features a rectangular dark slate top with a decorative scrolled wooden gallery splashback, centred by a carved floral motif. The base is supported by two front barley-twist Solomonic turned legs that terminate in brass and ceramic casters. The rear legs are of a straight square-section design. The piece includes a single full-width drawer with two turned wooden knobs and a lower tier shelf. There are no visible maker’s marks, stamps, or labels on the item. This lot comprises the side table only; the books, fossils, and other interior items shown in the images are not included.
Condition report:
The table is in poor, unrestored condition. The back legs are structurally compromised and broken, with the detached feet currently stored in the drawer (photo 1). The slate top surface shows heavy scratching and scuffing throughout (photo 3). There are numerous scuffs, chips, and finish losses to the mahogany frame, particularly evident on the lower tier and the edges of the gallery (photo 1). The casters exhibit signs of oxidation and surface wear (photo 2). The item requires professional structural repair and restoration.
