A pair of two bedside chests constructed in a traditional farmhouse style from solid pine with a honey-toned finish. Each chest features a rectangular top with a rounded bullnose edge, situated above an open upper storage shelf and a single lower drawer. The drawers are built with simple glued or stapled joints and are fitted with single turned pine pull knobs. The units are supported by a decorative scalloped plinth base. The secondary woods used for the drawer interiors and backing appear to be a lighter-toned wood or plywood, consistent with late 20th-century manufacturing. No maker’s marks, labels, or stamps are visible on the units.
Condition report:
Both chests show signs of significant use and wear. The top surfaces exhibit numerous surface scratches, scuffs, and areas of finish loss, particularly along the front edges (photos 1, 2, and 6). Visible water marks and general abrasions are present on the tops (photo 2). The side panels and plinth bases show minor scuffs and marks consistent with age and floor-level placement (photos 3 and 5). One chest shows a vertical scratch or mark to the interior back panel of the open shelf (photo 8). The drawer interiors appear relatively clean and free from major staining (photo 6).
