This lot comprises an expressionist style oil painting on board depicting a coastal or harbor scene with several boats. The composition features sailing vessels with prominent sails rendered in shades of pink, red, and white against a backdrop of shoreline architecture. The work is executed with heavy impasto brushwork, creating a thick and textured surface across the entire board. The palette consists of light blues, yellows, browns, and vibrant pinks. The painting is housed in a decorative wooden frame with a rope-twist inner border and a textured, cream-painted outer section. The reverse reveals the original hardboard support held within a wooden stretcher frame with a hanging wire. Handwritten in black ink on the reverse of the wooden frame is the number 91706 and a small square symbol containing a cross or X. No artist signature or date is visible on the front or reverse of the work.
Condition report:
The painting appears in generally good and stable condition. There is an accumulation of surface dirt and dust within the deep impasto texture across the entire surface (photo 1). The frame shows minor chips and wear to the painted surface, particularly at the corners and along the edges (photo 2). The reverse hardboard support displays minor scuffing and discoloration consistent with age (photo 3). No significant paint loss or flaking is visible in the provided photographs.
