This lot comprises a circular earthenware posy ring bowl by the contemporary British ceramicist Amanda Popham. The vessel is constructed with a concentric inner wall that creates a central aperture and an outer trough-like compartment, typical of a posy or flower ring form. The exterior and interior surfaces are decorated in a hand-painted illustrative style, featuring a repeating triangular bunting pattern around the rims in pink and green washes. The outer wall displays hand-lettered banners containing lyrics from the traditional song The Twelve Days of Christmas, including 2 TURTLE DOVES, 12 DRUMMERS DRUMMING, 4 CALLING BIRDS, 3 FRENCH HENS, 5 GOLD RINGS, 7 SWANS A SWIMMING, and 9 LADIES DANCING. The base of the vessel bears a hand-painted black inscription that reads AMANDA POPHAM 2001. The cream-coloured glaze exhibits a deliberate fine crazing or crackle finish, while the interior features a variegated green-washed glaze.
Condition report:
The bowl is in good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or professional repairs. The fine network of lines across the cream glaze (photo 4) is a characteristic crazing finish inherent to the glazing process. There are small, dark spots and minor pitting marks visible in the glaze on the interior and base (photo 3), which are characteristic of the studio firing process. The green glaze application is intentionally uneven with areas of darker pooling (photo 1).
