A collection of British commemorative and currency coinage featuring several 1977 Silver Jubilee crowns. The crowns are struck in cupro-nickel to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II, featuring an obverse design of the Queen on horseback and a reverse depicting the Coronation regalia within a floral border. Four crowns are presented in beige plastic cases marked with a crown device and the text ER Silver Jubilee 1952-1977. Two further crowns are held in green card folders printed with the text Lloyds Bank and a black horse logo. The lot also includes a US Mint Denver bronze-coloured medal in a plastic bag with a green and white header reading US Mint Denver, Colorado and a circular seal for The Department of The Treasury 1789. The remainder of the collection comprises assorted British currency including copper-alloy pennies and silver-coloured decimal and pre-decimal coins, alongside a small commemorative medal with a suspension loop.
Condition report:
The cased commemorative crowns appear in uncirculated or near-uncirculated condition with original lustre and no visible surface wear (photo 1). Several of the plastic cases show minor surface scratching and one beige case has a small crack to the plastic housing (photo 2). The loose copper and silver-coloured currency coins exhibit significant signs of circulation including heavy toning, surface marks, and softened detail consistent with a fine to very fine grade (photo 1). The US Mint medal remains sealed in its original plastic packaging which appears intact.
