A mid-20th-century Jacobean Revival dark oak court cupboard, also known as a buffet sideboard, executed in the Old English style popularised by manufacturers such as Wood Bros (Old Charm). The upper section features a recessed cupboard with twin doors, each decorated with relief-carved panels of interlaced scrolling foliate motifs. This section is supported by two substantial bulbous cup and cover turned pillars resting upon a stepped-out mid-shelf. The lower section comprises two drawers with gadrooned fronts and turned wooden knobs, situated above a pair of large panelled cupboard doors. The doors are secured by central vertical wooden turn-latches. Unusually, the carcass is flanked by curved, bow-fronted side panels. The piece is raised on short stile feet.
Condition report:
The cupboard shows signs of age and regular use. There are visible surface scratches, scuffs, and small indentations across the piece, most notably on the mid-shelf. A faint circular ring mark is present on the right-hand side of the mid-shelf surface. The dark finish shows some unevenness and wear consistent with its age.
