A dark oak bureau bookcase of typical Jacobean Revival form, attributed to manufacturers such as Jaycee or Wood Bros. The upper section features a protruding cornice over a frieze with a deeply carved repeating scroll pattern. Below are two glazed doors with leaded glass in a traditional lozenge lattice design, opening to reveal an interior with two fixed wooden shelves. The lower section comprises a fall-front bureau, the exterior centred by a large rectangular panel featuring deeply carved foliate scrolls and fleur-de-lis motifs. The bureau rests above four graduated long drawers. The uppermost drawer is decorated with a band of carved blind arcading, while the three lower drawers are plain. All drawers are fitted with twin turned wooden knobs. The piece is supported on a simple plinth base. No manufacturer’s marks or stamps are visible.
Condition report:
The item is in good, stable condition. There are visible signs of age-related wear, including minor scuffs, scratches, and surface marks to the wood, particularly around the edges and on the drawer fronts. The leaded glazing appears intact. The interior condition of the bureau and the presence of any keys or a writing surface cannot be confirmed as the unit is shown closed.
