A collection of antique and vintage metalware intended for domestic hearth use and decoration, primarily constructed from copper and brass. The assortment includes a copper coal scuttle or water carrier of oval form featuring a fixed overhead handle and a smaller rear handle, both secured with riveted triangular plates. Fireplace accessories comprise a brass chestnut roaster with a long handle and a hinged, heart-shaped pan decorated with a pierced pattern of stars and circles; a brass skimmer with a circular, pierced geometric head; and a hearth shovel with a copper-toned blade and turned wooden handle. Also included are brass fire pokers with cast figural handles, one of which is incised with the characters XII.
Decorative items within the collection include a cast brass bottle opener featuring a handle in the form of a folkloric figure with the words DARTMOOR PIXIE cast into the side. Other small items include a cast brass dish in the shape of an ivy leaf and a miniature brass clog or Dutch-style shoe with chased floral motifs.
Condition report:
Items are in used antique and vintage condition showing a natural aged patina, tarnish, and surface oxidation across all metal components. The copper scuttle exhibits surface scratches and minor indentations consistent with domestic use. All handles and rivets appear structurally sound and secure. No significant repairs or restorations are visible.
