A small wooden specimen chest or bank of drawers, featuring sixteen individual compartments arranged in a four-by-four grid. The wooden carcass and drawer fronts are finished in a pale yellow paint. Each drawer is fitted with a single patinated dark metal swan-neck drop handle on shaped backplates. The drawers are flush-fitting within the main frame, which features a rectangular top with a simple moulded edge. Two adhesive paper labels are present on the upper-left drawer fronts, bearing the handwritten inscriptions Entry and Mid century. The piece is constructed in the style of traditional apothecary or library card catalogue storage.
Condition report:
The chest is in a used condition with notable wear to the painted surface. There are frequent chips, scuffs, and areas of paint loss, particularly around the edges of the drawer fronts and the carcass. The top surface shows various circular stains, marks, and indentations consistent with age and use. The metal hardware shows a naturally aged dark patina.
