This collection includes several items of vintage domestic and industrial interest. The primary item is a set of balance-arm kitchen scales manufactured by Librasco. The scales feature a black-painted cast iron base and beam with the name Librasco and Made in England appearing on a transfer label. The word England is also cast in relief on the upper arm. The scales are fitted with a large brass scoop-form ingredient pan and a smaller flat brass weight pan. Accompanying the scales is a graduated set of eight brass weights of traditional bell-shaped design with loop or stud tops, with one weight marked 4 oz. The lot also includes a vintage brass blowlamp featuring a cylindrical fuel tank and a steel burner assembly with a black-painted handle. The tank is fitted with a metal plate bearing the inscriptions Tested Pressure, Body 60 lbs, Safety Device 30 lbs, and Tested. A separate copper tag is riveted to the tank stamped 5/68. Completing the collection is a clear pressed glass jelly or aspic mould with a tiered, fluted design.
Condition report:
The Librasco scales show expected wear to the black-painted finish and natural patination to the brass pans. The brass weights exhibit heavy tarnishing and surface oxidation consistent with age. The blowlamp shows significant signs of industrial use, including heavy oxidation to the brass tank and heat-related soot deposits on the burner assembly. The glass mould appears to be in good overall condition with no visible chips or significant cracks.
