This antique German character toddler doll was manufactured by Armand Marseille. The doll features a bisque socket head mounted on a five-piece jointed composition toddler body. The reverse of the neck is incised with the marks Germany / 1330 / A 12 M, identifying the maker, mould number, and size. The doll is fitted with blue glass weighted sleep eyes featuring painted upper and lower lashes and multi-stroke eyebrows. The open mouth reveals two inset upper teeth. The doll has a blonde wig styled with a white textile ribbon. The doll is dressed in a vintage off-white tiered dress with a satin finish and mother-of-pearl buttons.
Condition report:
The bisque head is generally well-preserved with no apparent cracks or hairlines, showing only minor surface marking and residue on the chin. The composition body exhibits significant age-related wear, with extensive chipping and loss of the surface finish on the fingers and toes. The textile dress shows prominent staining and discolouration throughout consistent with age and long-term storage. The sleep eye mechanism remains functional.
