An Arts and Crafts style firescreen featuring a central rectangular copper panel set within a wrought iron frame. The copper panel is decorated in high-relief repousse with a central stylised floral motif surrounded by scrolling foliage and clusters of berries. The background of the panel shows a planished, stippled texture. The wrought iron frame is topped with an arched decorative rail containing five scroll motifs and is supported by four scrolling feet. The reverse of the copper panel is covered with a striped paper or fabric backing, held in place by metal tabs. No maker marks or signatures are visible.
Condition report:
The copper panel exhibits a natural aged patina with some surface oxidation and dark spots. The wrought iron frame shows minor surface scuffs and areas of loss to the dark finish, particularly on the scrolling elements. The reverse fabric or paper backing is in poor condition, showing significant tearing, staining, and peeling, most notably in the upper-left corner. The metal tabs securing the panel to the frame appear intact.
