A mid-20th-century teak bureau on stand and matching stool, designed in the Queen Anne revival style. The bureau is constructed from solid teak and teak veneers, displaying a warm golden-brown colour with prominent straight and wavy grain patterns. The fall-front is decorated with a hand-carved border featuring a repeating floral head motif and includes two semi-circular carved finger grips at the top edge. Below the writing slope are two drawers, each fitted with an integral carved handle in the form of a shell. The bureau sits upon a separate stand with four cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. The interior of the bureau is fitted with four vertical pigeonholes to the left and three horizontal document slots to the right, flanking a central small drawer with a matching shell pull. The writing surface is finished in plain wood. Hardware includes brass hinges and internal support stays, with a circular metal lock plate to the exterior of the fall-front. The accompanying rectangular stool features matching cabriole legs and pad feet. This style of carved teak furniture was frequently produced in Southeast Asia for export to the UK market during the 1960s and 1970s.
