A wall-mounted aneroid barometer produced by Erref, Germany. The case is constructed from a moulded composition material designed to simulate hand-carved Black Forest woodwork. The decorative scheme features a central stag head in high relief with a full set of antlers, set against a background of overlapping oak leaves and acorns. The piece is finished with a polychrome wood-effect patina in shades of brown and yellow. The central barometer is housed within a brass-toned bezel behind a domed glass cover. The dial features a circular scale calibrated in inches of mercury from 27 to 31, with weather indicators including Stormy, Rain, Change, Fair, and Very Dry. The dial is inscribed Barometer of Precision and includes a black indicator needle and a red manually-adjustable setting pointer. The reverse bears moulded marks including Made in Germany, Erref within a shield-shaped cartouche, Ges. Gesch., and Depose.
Condition report:
Good overall condition consistent with age and domestic use. There is minor surface dust and light wear present. A small chip is noted to the tip of one antler tine on the reverse side. The barometer mechanism is untested for accuracy or movement.
