This early-to-mid 20th-century English trunk is constructed from metal with a dome-top lid. The exterior features a faux wood-grain scumble paint finish, while the interior is coated in a dark red paint. The interior base retains a partial lining of later floral-patterned paper. The trunk is fitted with a central brass-toned decorative lock plate and latch assembly, and heavy-duty metal carrying handles are located at each side. The underside of the lid features an embossed mark reading MADE IN ENGLAND.
Condition report:
The trunk is in a well-used, distressed condition consistent with its age and utilitarian history. There are significant dents to the metal, particularly on the dome-top lid. The exterior scumble-painted finish shows extensive wear, scratching, and areas of loss. Two large remnants of paper labels are adhered to the lid. Surface oxidation and rust are present on the metal body and the iron hardware. The interior floral paper lining is partially missing and peeling away from the surface. The latch and lock plate show tarnishing and surface wear.
