Buyer's Premium:

This lot features a large, two-tone salt-glazed stoneware flagon produced for Mumby’s of Portsmouth. The body displays a central black transfer-printed cartouche identifying the company as makers to H.M. the King, with text reading MUMBY’S HOME BREWED MAKERS TO H.M. the King BY APPOINTMENT GINGER BEER WRIGHTSON’S PATENT. The shoulder of the flagon is impressed with the numeral 13. The vessel is designed with a tapered shoulder, a screw-top neck containing its stoneware stopper, and a lower spout designed for a tap fitting. It retains a wire carrying handle with a wooden grip.

Also included is a collection of two-tone salt-glazed stoneware storage jars of cylindrical form, featuring honey-brown glazed rims and cream-coloured bodies typical of Victorian utility ware.

The lot further comprises workshop storage equipment, consisting of a blue plastic toolbox with a clear-topped multi-compartment lid and removable internal cantilever-style tray, alongside a slim grey and clear plastic multi-compartment organiser case with a carrying handle.

Condition report:

The Mumby\'s flagon is in good antique condition with surface staining and minor pitting consistent with age. There are visible rust marks around the neck and shoulder from the wire handle. The tap is missing from the lower spout. The stoneware jars are generally in good condition with minor staining and manufacturing imperfections typical of salt-glazed utility ware. The plastic workshop items are in used, functional condition with surface scuffing and dust from storage; all latches and hinges appear intact.
