A collection of three mid-20th century portable manual typewriters and related accessories. The group comprises an Adler typewriter in a cream and tan finish with a QWERTY keyboard; a Smith-Corona Courier typewriter in a brown finish, housed in a zip-around carry case with a red tartan lining and featuring a black and gold retailer’s label for Tamar Office Equipment Ltd, Plymouth; and an Olympia De Luxe typewriter in a grey textured crinkle finish, complete with its original hardshell carry case and featuring a keyboard with Scandinavian character keys. The lot further includes an orange-bound instructional manual titled Rational Typewriting and a blue metal storage box containing an assortment of typewriter ribbons including examples by Kores and Amstrad.
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of age and significant use throughout. The Adler typewriter is missing its top ribbon cover plate and exhibits surface oxidisation and dust accumulation to the internal mechanisms. The Smith-Corona zip-around case displays heavy wear and tearing to the interior fabric lining. The Olympia typewriter and its hardshell case show general surface scuffing, minor paint loss, and light oxidisation to metal components. The instructional manual and ribbon boxes show age-related discolouration, staining, and wear to the edges. All mechanical items are sold as untested for functional use.
