A mid-20th-century Chinese-style coffee table constructed from dark-stained hardwood. The rectangular top contains a deeply hand-carved relief panel depicting a narrative scene of figures amongst pagodas and landscapes, protected by an inset panel of plate glass. The apron is decorated with carved geometric fretwork and floral motifs. The end panels feature further relief carvings of figures in landscape settings, including depictions of circular moon gates. The table is supported by four curved chow-style legs with additional carved detailing to the knees and feet.
Condition report:
The table exhibits signs of age and regular use. There are visible surface scratches, scuffs, and minor chips to the wood finish, particularly along the edges and on the legs. The inset glass top appears intact with minor surface wear consistent with age.
