A two-piece lot consisting of a small wooden side table and a matching stylized ceramic elephant figure. The side table is of 20th-century manufacture, featuring a square top with a moulded, scalloped edge and a decorative red and black mottled lacquer-effect surface. The frame is constructed from dark-stained wood with four slender cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. The ceramic elephant figure is finished in a matching red and black mottled glaze. A circular retailer label on the base of the figure for Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd identifies it as a large mocha elephant, indicating that the current red and black finish on both items is a later decorative application. The figure was produced in China.
Condition report:
Both items exhibit surface wear and texture consistent with the decorative application. The wooden table frame is structurally stable with minor scuffs and marks to the legs. The ceramic figure has a small chip to the unglazed portion of the base.
