Buyer's Premium:

This collection consists of three Portmeirion earthenware items produced in England. The group comprises one large oval platter and two vases of differing forms. The platter is from the Birds of Britain series and features a central transfer-printed motif of a Common Pheasant, No. 5 Phasianus colchicus, in a naturalistic landscape, based on late 18th-century illustrations by E. Donovan. The interior rim is decorated with a repeating border motif of various smaller bird species. The base of the platter carries a green printed backstamp within a foliate wreath, identifying the maker as Portmeirion and the series as Birds of Britain by E. Donovan 1794, with a 1978 design date by Susan Williams-Ellis. It is marked as dishwasher proof inglaze decoration and Made in England, with an additional printed number 40. The two vases are from The Botanic Garden series, established in 1972. One vase is of tall hexagonal form and the other is of ovoid shape with a flared rim. Both vases are decorated with blue and white floral spikes and butterfly motifs. The hexagonal vase bears a black printed Portmeirion Botanic Garden mark to the base. The ovoid vase has a similar circular mark, partially covered by a retail label which identifies the item as Botanic Garden No. 3 and gives a measurement of 8.75 inches.

Ovoid vase height: 8.75 inches.

Condition report:

The items are in good overall condition. There is minor surface dirt and shelf wear to the unglazed foot-rims of all pieces. The platter exhibits some light scuff marks to the interior surface. No chips, cracks, or repairs are evident.
