Estimated price: £5 - £10

Buyer's Premium:

A British Army officer’s metal campaign trunk or footlocker, manufactured by Farwig and Bullock of London. The rectangular steel trunk features a hinged lid and a single folding handle located on the front. The exterior is finished with hand-painted white stencilled lettering identifying the original owner as Lieutenant J. V. E. O’Connell of the Grenadier Guards. The lid is further marked with the number 14 and shows faint traces of over-painted text including the designation F P O 2, referring to Field Post Office 2. The interior lid retains an oval manufacturer’s decal for Farwig and Bullock (F & B), featuring a blue border with the company’s trademark cow icon and the words London Made. The interior is finished in black and includes two white fabric lid-stay straps.

Condition report:

The trunk exhibits heavy signs of age and service use, with extensive surface oxidation and rust across the exterior surfaces. The stencilled identifications remain clearly legible despite the patina. The metal shows minor denting and deformation consistent with transport. The interior is in good condition, retaining its original finish and maker\'s label. External latches and the handle show heavy corrosion but remain in situ.
