This collection of silver-plated tablewares is primarily comprised of a tea and coffee service manufactured by Walker & Hall, Sheffield. The service includes a teapot, a coffee or hot water pot, a two-handled sugar bowl, and a cream jug, all displayed on a large circular tray with a raised gallery edge. The pieces feature a modernist design characterised by tapered cylindrical bodies, flat hinged lids with disc-shaped finials, and angular geometric handles. The base of the tray is struck with several marks, including a pennant-shaped flag containing the letters W & H, the name WALKER & HALL SHEFFIELD, and the quality mark A in a square. It is further stamped with the serial number 55678 and the text GUARANTEED HARD SILVER SOLDERED 68, alongside a small mark showing G over G&S. The collection also includes a condiment set featuring a baluster-form caster, an engraved lidded mustard pot, and a salt cellar containing a cobalt blue glass liner. Accompanying these are a pair of silver-plated sugar tongs with shell-motif grips, a small two-handled basin with a matching spoon, and a pair of novelty miniature riding boots with white liners.
Condition report:
The items are in good overall condition, exhibiting a bright polished finish. There are some light surface scratches and minor tarnish consistent with age and use. The cobalt blue glass liner in the salt cellar appears to be intact with no visible chips or cracks. The silver plating shows no significant signs of wear or bleeding to the base metal.
