A group of two sterling silver items. The first is an Edwardian footed, oval-shaped trinket box manufactured by E. S. Barnsley and Co. The hinged lid features a scalloped silver border. The body is raised on four decorative scrolled feet and the interior is lined with a beige textile. The side of the box is struck with four hallmarks: the maker’s mark E.S.B for Edward Samuel Barnsley, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the capital date letter P for 1914. The second item is a rectangular matchbook case featuring an engine-turned guilloché wavy pattern within scrolled foliate borders. The front is fitted with a curved thumbpiece set with a dark cabochon stone. The interior contains a vintage partial matchbook for Barnardo’s Homes and bears convention hallmarks for L C B Co Ltd, including the scales symbol, the 925 fineness mark, and the lowercase date letter k for circa 2009.
Condition report:
The trinket box exhibits significant overall tarnish and surface patina throughout the silver. The interior textile lining is heavily worn, stained, and frayed. The matchbook case is in generally good condition with minor surface scratches and light tarnish. The internal paper matchbook is fragmented and worn.
